Fabric History/Provenance: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert .
Fabric Description: This is lightweight silk is derived from a woman's kimono; this is multi-colored background silk: blue-gray to dark-blue, but the front is full of colorful designs of obtusely shaped lined areas in patchwork arrangement-- each area a different design; Motif is overwhelmingly floral, but, also, each obtuse area has many geometric grids comprised of geometric shapes, medallions, (mon)crests, or flowers; All elements - whether of the flowers or the figures - are no larger than 1.25 inches/31.75mm in size, many smaller than that; Within each obtuse area are different other flowers and honeycomb grid arrangements; also abundant flowers of different types; colors used for designs: light to dark blues, colonial blues,burgundy and green; lines defining borders of the obtuse areas are very fine white; Designs on one side but saturated dye work shown on reverse; slight drape and sheen.
